FoundFilm Privacy Policy
FoundFilm is a location-based movie-collecting game made by Joshua Reid, an individual developer in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. This page explains what the game collects, why, and what happens to it. If anything here is unclear, email info@foundfilm.app.
The short version. You play with an anonymous account. The game uses your precise location while it is open, to show nearby film drops and to catch GPS spoofing. Your location is never shown to other players, never sold, and never used for advertising. There are no ads, no data sales, and no tracking across other companies' apps or websites.
Your account is anonymous
You do not need an email address, name, or phone number to play. You choose a username, and you can add an optional bio and a list of favorite films. That is all the game asks for.
Location
FoundFilm uses your device's precise location while the app is in use. It uses it for two things:
- Gameplay. Showing film drops near you on the map.
- Fair play. Running movement-plausibility checks that stop GPS spoofing and cheating. When movement looks implausible, the event is logged so it can be reviewed by moderation.
Your location is not shown to other players, not sold, and not used for advertising.
Photos and camera
Camera and photo access are optional. If you want, you can set a profile picture, a profile background, and room cover images from your camera or photo library. Images are resized and re-encoded on your device before upload. They are stored with your account and are visible to other players.
Things you write in the game
Comments you leave on film prints, support tickets you open, and reports you file about other players' content are stored with your account. Comments are visible to other players. Tickets and reports are not.
Gameplay data
Your game state lives on FoundFilm's servers so it follows you between sessions. That includes your collections, trades, offers, tickets, XP, streaks, quest progress, and similar records of how you play.
Purchases
In-app purchases (cosmetic themes and a premium tier) are planned and will be processed by Apple. The developer never sees your payment card details. During the beta, purchases are simulated and no real money is charged.
Services FoundFilm relies on
FoundFilm runs on a small set of service providers:
- Supabase hosts the database and authentication.
- Cloudflare hosts the API and map tiles.
- Sentry receives error and crash reports (errors only).
- Apple handles TestFlight distribution and, later, in-app purchases.
- TMDB supplies movie titles, posters, and metadata. FoundFilm's own server fetches this data; your player data is not sent to TMDB.
Map data comes from OpenStreetMap contributors.
What FoundFilm does not do
- No advertising.
- No selling of data.
- No tracking of you across other companies' apps or websites.
Age
FoundFilm is for players 13 and older.
Push notifications
Push notifications may be added later. If they are, they will be permission-based: you choose whether to turn them on.
Beta notice
FoundFilm is in beta. Game progress may be reset at public launch.
Deleting your account and asking questions
Email info@foundfilm.app to ask what information is stored with your account, to ask a question about this policy, or to request that your account be deleted. The developer is based in Canada and handles personal information in line with Canadian privacy law (PIPEDA): collect only what the game needs, use it only for the purposes described here, and delete it when you ask.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the date at the top of this page will change with it. Meaningful changes will be described in plain language, not buried.
